Kimberley Fly Fishing is an eccentric team of experienced guides and fishermen that are true ambassadors to the sport and the local waters they have grown up fishing on. Kimberley Fly Fishing and its guides have been dedicated to preserving and safely sharing some of the best fishing for wild trout on the planet and in particular the natural dry fly fishing that takes place during the spring, summer and fall months.
We hope that you will join us on a trip that’s memories will last a lifetime!!
Established in 1995 by John Wallace, Kimberley Fly Fishing has been providing world class fly fishing to it’s clients for over 25 years! Jeff Chlopan became a partner in 2006 and the torch was passed to Nathan Kelly in 2019. Nate is a local and long time fly fishing guide and had guided for Kimberley Fly Fishing for several years. Nathan has been guiding fly fishing here in the Kootenays since 2005 for several reputable outfits. When the opportunity arose to take over Kimberley Fly Fishing he wasted no time and became the new owner in August of 2019.
Meet Our Guides

Nathan Kelly
My name is Nathan Kelly and I recently took over ownership of Kimberley Fly Fishing Ltd. This is a life-long time dream of mine and couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to not only share my passion for fly fishing and this breathtaking area of British Columbia, but to also facilitate a fantastic fishing experience and teach people from all different walks of life about our unique, rare and truly wild freestone fishery for the native trout that inhabit the rivers, lakes and streams here. I am proud to have called the East Kootenays home since 1988.
Being an avid outdoorsman since I was able to walk, my father and mother instilled in me a love and respect for fishing and the outdoors that has stuck with me to this day. After graduating from the Canadian Institute of Outdoor Leadership with a diploma in 2003, I began my quest to make a living as a guide. I have been successfully pursuing a career in the guiding industry ever since and have survived many ups and downs along the way which I believe has helped give me the tenacity to excel under any circumstances. What I enjoy most about guiding and fishing is the life-long relationships with clients and the friends, stories, smiles and laughs that are made on every journey.
I look forward to continuing along this path and making many more great memories and friends along the way!

John Wallace
Wow !! It’s hard to believe its been over 25 years since I began my career as an angling guide in my hometown of Kimberley, British Columbia. I cannot thank all the clients enough for the many great memories we have had and friendships made along the way!
I couldn’t be happier to have passed on my many years of experience, knowledge and hard work to a local guide. Although I have bowed out as the fly fishing outfitter for Kimberley Fly Fishing, I am pleased to be able to continue to guide long time clients and be a part of this business I have been so dedicated to for all these years.

Jesse Wallace
I have been a fly fishing guide with Kimberley Fly fishing for 3 summers but started working with clients and customers in the shop when I was 16. I fell in love with fly fishing at a very young age, as my dad was the founder of Kimberley Fly Fishing over 25 years ago. He had me with a fly rod in my hands before I could even walk. I absolutely love getting out with a variety of clients, from beginners to experienced anglers, and meeting people from all over the world. Each guided trip is a new experience and I love introducing and showing people my home waters.
Growing up in Kimberley, I spent a majority of my free time over the summers fishing with my dad and friends or even alone as I couldn’t get enough of it. After all, there’s always a bigger fish in that same hole isn’t there?! I look forward to continuing guiding with Kimberley Fly Fishing and can’t wait to get back on the rivers again this summer! Come on out and I’ll show you exactly what I mean.

Alec Winterburn
My name is Alec Winterburn and I have had the pleasure of guiding clients on our amazing rivers here in the Kootenays for Kimberley Fly Fishing since 2019. I started fly fishing at the age of 15 and have never looked back since. However, fly fishing took a backseat to skiing and mountain biking for a few year. When I moved to Canmore I rediscovered my love for the sport from chasing beautiful westslope cutthroat in the crystal clear alpine lakes to the skiddish browns in the Bow River.
From there I moved to the Kootenays in 2012 and have been enjoying the amazing wild freestone fishery here exploring the world class rivers in this incredible area. I eagerly anticipate the spring when I begin chasing bull trout and prespawned cutthroat trout until the classified waters open for fishing June 15. Once these rivers have calmed down from the spring runoff you will find me walking endless miles of the riverbanks fishing, dry flies, for agressive cutthroat trout until the cold and the ice chase me off the last postspawn bull trout in the fall.
