Elk River and Skookumchuck River Fly Fishing
Without doubt, the Elk River is one of the most famous Westslope Cutthroat Trout rivers in the area. A classic freestone river that stretches from deep in the Canadian Rockies for almost 200km before depositing into Lake Koocanusa. The Cutthroat Trout on this river are big and strong and are spaced with some very aggressive Bull Trout. From late July to Early October these native trout love to hit dry flies on the surface. The Elk River is not as intimate as the St. Mary or Bull Rivers but 30~40 fish days are still not uncommon. The scenery around the Fernie, BC area is spectacular and you will have to remind yourself to look up at the mountains on occasion to fully appreciate this small area of heaven on earth.
The Elk River is about an hour away from our Kimberley Shop. After a big day with a lot of big fish, often getting to that magical 20 inch length, you will be looking forward to a good night's sleep with dreams of catching more stunning Westslope Cutthroat Trout on another day.
With the exception of taxes, gratuities and licenses everything else you will need is included in the price of the trip.
Skookumchuck River
"The Skook" is a smaller river that is only accessible by foot. Your guide will lead you into the deeper parts of the Purcell Mountains to pools that trout dreams are made of. Cutthroat, Bull Trout and fiesty Cut-Bows that attack flies like it is their last meal. This trip is geared for customers that are in good physical condition.
